Our Kochi entry is Tosa Shrine in Ikku-Shinane, north of the city centre. Allow for rail or bus access before the long shrine approach. Its March Igomori ritual restricts precinct entry; check the date as well as building-viewing and prayer times. Nearby Zenrakuji is a separate Buddhist temple visit.
Long approach through large trees · Historic wooden shrine halls · Precinct rocks connected with shrine traditions
Estimated visit
30–50 min
Ordinary worship and a short main-precinct walk; excludes station approaches, Zenrakuji Temple, outlying sacred-rock walks, ceremonies and queues.
Getting there
The official guide lists about 19 minutes on foot from JR Tosa-Ikku Station, 4 minutes from Ikku-Higashimon bus stop, or 5 minutes from Ikku-Jinja-mae. It is not in central Kochi’s downtown walking area.
