Terms of use & information disclaimer

Effective and last updated: 8 October 2026

These terms explain how to use Torii Atlas, an independent shrine travel guide developed and operated by an individual. Browsing, searching, comparison and device-local saving are free and require no account.

1. The service

We provide reference information to help you choose shrines to visit. We do not represent the listed shrines, accept reservations or payments on their behalf, or provide emergency assistance. Shrine visits and any paid services are arranged directly with the relevant provider.

2. Information and visit planning

We check cited sources, but cannot guarantee that every entry is complete, current or free of errors. Hours, fees, access and available areas may change. Check official notices and follow local guidance before and during your visit. Duration ranges are planning estimates with stated scopes; nearby distances are approximate straight-line distances, not walking routes or accessibility guarantees.

3. Religious traditions and heritage labels

Prayer categories describe traditions without promising results. World Heritage and cultural-property labels apply to the specific assets or buildings identified in each guide; they do not promise that interiors can be visited or imply official endorsement of Torii Atlas.

4. Text, photographs and reuse

Rights in original site content belong to its rights holders. Linking to our pages is welcome. Reusing text or photographs must comply with applicable law and the licence shown for each work. Photographs can have different licences from the site’s text; credit, source and share-alike requirements continue to apply. Do not imply endorsement by a shrine, photographer or Torii Atlas.

5. Responsible use

Do not use the site for unlawful purposes, infringe others’ rights, impersonate an operator or shrine, attempt unauthorised access, or disrupt the site through excessive automated requests.

6. External services and local saving

External sites, maps and any future booking links are provided by their respective operators and have their own terms and policies. Local saving depends on your browser and may be lost after site-data deletion or browser changes; it is not account syncing or an offline archive. See our privacy policy for current storage, analytics and advertising practices.

7. Changes and responsibility

We may correct content, change features or temporarily suspend the service for maintenance. Material changes to these terms will be explained on this page with an updated date. Responsibility for losses is determined under applicable law. These terms do not exclude or limit liability where the law prohibits doing so, including liability for intentional misconduct or gross negligence, and do not remove mandatory consumer protections.
