Compare Miyazaki Jingu's wooded city precinct, Aoshima Shrine's coastal island and Udo Jingu's sea-cliff cave. Choose for transport, scenery and walking conditions as well as prayer traditions. Udo's main sanctuary requires descending steps; coastal journeys are additional to the time at each shrine.

Getting there
About 10 minutes on foot from JR Aoshima Station. Reach the island across the pedestrian bridge; ordinary visitors cannot drive across to the shrine.

Getting there
The prefectural guide lists a Miyazaki Kotsu bus towards Obi from Miyazaki Station, about 90 minutes to Udo Jingu, followed by about 10 minutes on foot. Check present services and the return journey before relying on the bus.
