A short history
The shrine is mentioned in poems in the Manyoshu and in ninth-century records. Its much earlier foundation belongs to shrine tradition. The present main buildings were rebuilt in 1916 after a fire.
Before you go
The shrine’s worship custom is two bows, four claps, then one bow. Follow local notices. Check permission requirements before organised or commercial photography. This is the Niigata shrine, not the similarly named shrine in Sapporo.
