Sugawara no Michizane (Tenjin)
A short history
The shrine honours the scholar and statesman Sugawara no Michizane as Tenjin. Its history extends over a thousand years and centres on the place where he was buried after his death in Dazaifu.
Before you go
The September 19, 2026 notice says worship in front of the main sanctuary has resumed; it does not establish that every renovation task is finished. Formal prayer reception is separate. The photograph shows the temporary hall in December 2023, not a live view of the current worship arrangement.
