A short history

The precise foundation date is uncertain, but the shrine appears in the Engishiki records. Its current buildings were completed in 1667 under Matsudaira Sadanaga; the shrine tradition links their rebuilding to his archery prayer. The Hachiman-style complex is nationally designated as an Important Cultural Property.

Before you go

A short map distance from Dogo Onsen does not mean a level walk. Ask the shrine about another approach if stairs are difficult. The official parking guide gives one hour free for worshippers between 06:00 and 18:00; this is more specific than the tourism listing’s general free-parking note.
