A short history
The shrine’s origin tradition connects its foundation with Emperor Jimmu; this is a religious tradition rather than a verified ancient date. It later attracted warrior patronage. The present shrine buildings, inner sanctuary and gate received support from the Tokugawa family and are designated Important Cultural Properties.
Before you go
The museum’s National Treasure sword should not be planned as a viewable exhibit while the museum is closed. The lakeside first torii is separate from this precinct walk. Prayer outcomes are not guaranteed.
