A short history

The shrine dates its foundation to 1005 and enshrines Amaterasu and Toyouke, the principal kami of the two main sanctuaries at Ise. Earlier names include Shiba Shinmei-gu and Iikura Shinmei-gu.

The formal-prayer reception schedule is separate from ordinary worship. Individual formal prayers start at ¥10,000 and require booking; this is not an ordinary-visit admission charge. Allow additional time during ceremonies and festivals.
