A short history
Its origin tradition places the shrine's establishment in the early eighth century as a local guardian shrine. It preserves traditions of ceremonies to calm Fuji's eruptions. The nearby five-storey Chureito is a war memorial, not the shrine's main sanctuary.
Before you go
The 15–30-minute estimate covers the shrine only, not the upper pagoda viewpoint. The latter needs additional walking, photo time and possible queues. Fuji can be hidden by clouds. Respect nearby homes and local traffic rules. This shrine is not a listed Fujisan World Heritage component.
