A short history

The official history dates the establishment of the four main sanctuaries to 768. They enshrine Takemikazuchi, Futsunushi, Amenokoyane and Himegami, whose worship forms the centre of the shrine’s traditions.

Getting there
The official guide gives about 15 minutes east on foot from Kintetsu Nara Station. Buses stop at Himurojinja / Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan-mae, beside the museum.
