A short history
The exact foundation date is uncertain. Long revered as the principal shrine of Mutsu, it has buildings centred on reconstruction begun under Date Tsunamura in 1695. The shrine buildings received national Important Cultural Property designation in 2002.
Before you go
Shiwahiko is a separate shrine in the shared grounds; its deity is not added to this shrine’s three-deity list. Goshuin use a two-page spread for both shrines. Do not assume gate hours and prayer reception hours are identical.
