A short history
Revived in 1625 by bringing together Suwa, Morisaki and Sumiyoshi worship, it moved to the present site in 1648. The shrine was rebuilt in 1869 after an 1857 fire.
Before you go
The shrine identifies sea protection as one of its traditional associations; the safe-travel filter reflects that maritime context. This is Nagasaki’s Suwa Shrine, not Suwa Taisha in Nagano. Kunchi usually takes place October 7–9; check arrangements before a festival visit.
